So, the Fast Ferment is a plastic conical, it’s food grade plastic. And it is made for the five gallon home brewer. So it’s five gallons, it’s actually up to 23 liters, so you can make wine in it as well. And I’m doing this review after having made a beer in it, a wine in it, and two ciders now.
Regardless if you are interested in brewing your own wine, beer, or hard cider, this Conical Fermenter by FastFerment, can assist with your wants. This kit comes with everything you need to start brewing your own beer, and unlike other models, this conical fermenter is designed with beginners in mind. It is easy to use, and it even comes with a wall mount and all hardware needed to be able to mount the fermenter securely in place on a wall, where it will be out of the way.
If you are a beginner, this kit also comes with step by step instructions on how to brew your own beverages. This makes it convenient and user-friendly, from the first batch to the 100th batch. Other fermenter devices require you to rack or transfer things during the fermentation process, but with the FastFerment Conical Fermenter, this is no longer needed, which makes the fermentation process better overall.
This system has made a few of the bestseller rankings, including Kitchen & Dining and Beer Brewing Pots & Kettles.
So, I wanted to give you the pros and cons and the things that I’ve come up with to kind of mitigate the cons. The pros, first of all, it’s conical, you’re not going to spend the same price that you’re going to on a stainless steel conical. You’ve got the food grade plastic here, which is scratch resistant because you don’t want any little grimy bugs or anything getting in there and messing up your batch. Because of the collection bowl here, everything is done in this one unit, you don’t have to transfer between carboids. So, that’s cutting down on oxygen, that’s cutting down on possible infections.
When you’re finished, you close up the valve, you can remove the collection bowl and dump out the yeast if you want, put it back on, and then open it back up for the secondary ferment. Or you can run a cider through it, keep the yeast, and then when you make a second one, dump the yeast back in the top, open it back up. So, we’re making a second cider using the same yeast thanks to the collection bowl.
Another con, when I got the Fast Ferment they include about this much tubing, which is good for transferring to a keg, it’s not so great for transferring to bottles. So, I went to my local homebrew shop and got about five feet of the same diameter, which I’ll put a link down at the bottom. So, all I had to do was put this off the counter here and bottle into the wine bottles.
Another con is its height. Now, right now obviously it’s on top of a counter, but because of its height from the bottom of the stand to the top of the bubbler at about three feet, 36 inches, it’s too tall for my fermentation chamber. If you have a fermentation chamber and it’s got some height in it, that’s great. If you don’t, you can go with the insulator jacket, or you can just go with whatever temperature you have. And if you have the thermometer, you can see what the temperature of the worts is, and that’s just a pop in thermometer on the thermal well.
The key feature of this conical fermenter is that the design makes the process one-stage. Therefore, you do not have to worry about transferring between buckets and carboys throughout the process. All you have to do is set the device up, follow the instructions, and let the brewing commence.
Precautions and Recommendations
It is important to take your time when putting this conical fermenter together. The bulk of it is constructed out of plastic, and it is important to check the fermenter for any leaks before starting the full brewing process.
Since we’re talking about the accessories, one of the cons, the accessories don’t come with it. The thermometer is separate, the insulation jacket is separate and the sampling port is separate. I have the thermometer, which is useful, but if you have the room thermometer letting you know the wort is generally going to be around there, maybe a couple of extra degrees when you’re actually fermenting. The stand is what I would put as most important because you don’t want to be holding this thing while you’re trying to fill it up, you’ve got it under one arm trying to fill it up with the other arm. Or, have somebody else hold it.
But, if you don’t want to buy the stand, I found that if you have a stool, you flip the stool upside down, it will fit into here without the collection bowl hitting the bottom. Now, you might need to try a couple of different stools, but I like the stand a lot for that reason. Same idea, because of its weight, I like to have the carrying strap so I don’t have to hold it on its side when I’m trying to put it in.
This conical fermenting system comes with everything you need to immediately get started brewing, including an Allen wrench to help assemble it properly. The 6.5 gallon tank is designed in a special plastic material called tritan. This material gives the illusion of glass, but will not share if dropped the way glass would. The flow spigot is designed with a barbed spout, allowing you to not only attach a bottle filler like most fermenters but an actual hose if preferred.
Precautions and Recommendations
This system is compatible with the use of a bubbler, but before using a bubbler, you need to check the spigot and make sure that you have the proper lids required to keep the brew from escaping the conical fermenter, during the process. If you experience any leaks, it is important to make sure that you have tightened the valves properly, because this will fix the majority of any leaks with this conical fermenter.

It serves the brewing processing by removing the turb and making sure that it doesn’t end up in the final product of your brew.

The best feature about this conical fermenter is the size of the tank. It has a 7-gallon tank, which is larger than most fermenters, and therefore, it gives you room to make more per batch. Plus, being made out of stainless steel, it is easier to clean than most units and it is more sturdy.
Precautions and Recommendations
It is important to remember that these units are not cleaned after they are made. Therefore, you should always wash the entire unit upon delivery, to ensure that none of the chemicals used to create the system are lingering. Also, this conical fermenter does not come with caps on the bottom of its legs. To avoid scratching your counter, it is recommended to put some sort of padding on them or under them to keep this from occurring during the brewing process.

The best feature of this conically shaped fermenter is its conical base. It helps to keep any of undesirable aftermath of brewing from spilling out into your clean batches of beer
Precautions and Recommendations
It is important to point out that this fermenter system does not have its own heating or cooling capabilities. You may be able to cycle something like ice water or glycol through it to help bring the temperatures down, but you should look into this further before deciding to do so.
